While camping and hiking, we're often reminding ourselves of the best ways to look after the places we're traveling to, as well as keeping ourselves healthy. Keeping us and our environment good can also be known as the seven principals of leave no trace. Here's our count up to seven...
1. Plan ahead and prepare
It is always important to plan ahead and prepare for your trip. Bringing water is always a top priority, especially in Arizona. Look at the area you're going to before you go to make sure you bring the right materials.
2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces
Use the trails and pre-established campsites. Going off trail is sure to get you lost and possibly injured. You may also unknowingly be harming the local ecosystem. Making your own campsite can have similar risks. It is best to stick the pre-established areas for the safety of you and the preservation of the area around you.
3. Dispose of waste properly
Don't leave trash behind no matter where you're going. If you're going camping, bring specific bags for trash and recycling. When possible, bringing things that can be reused is always a plus for less trash in general.
4. Leave what you find
Be respectful of nature. Don't bring any new pets or wildlife with you back home. Every little thing is important to the ecosystem.
5. Minimize campfire impact
Only use campfires where it is allowed and be careful when dealing with fire. Fire is not only something that can harm you, but also the nature around.
6. Respect wildlife
Wildlife should not be fed or disturbed. Doing so can make them dependent on humans, making them unable to care for themselves. Wildlife should be observed from a distance.
7. Be considerate of other visitors
It is important to always be respectful of your fellow campers. Be sure to avoid loud noise or anything that may disturb those around you.
