Our starting point: 9200 N 40th St, Phoenix, AZ 85028

We embarked on the wide rocky path, on straight up through to the L.V. Yates Trail. We made it to a Two Bit Peak Marker. The Two Bit Peak marker is where the steepness really begins. We opted to not go right, where the marker pointed. Instead we went left to have a quick overview from our current hiking level. The Left Overview Trail only lasted a few minutes until it dead-ended. We then

proceeded back down the wide rocky trail that we started from.

Once the terrain got flatter, we had two additional trail options that could be easily seen. These trail options weren't that far from the parking lot. There is also a marker that stands out at this intersection, in the middle of a large open area.

From there we chose to go left on an easy and pleasurable hike that took us closer to homes and by washes. The trail took dips and small twists. We made it to the end marker and did an out and back for this trail. The end trail marker is also accessible from a neighborhood cul-de-sac.

All in all, the views were nicely varied. We chose trails of different skill levels, which we enjoyed. We saw a cactus in bloom, as well as a few flowers scattered throughout. There were interesting rock colors and formations along the way. We also had the opportunity to sample different degrees of terrain without using up too much daylight.

Interesting fact: Trail markers along the way have bar codes with trail information and mapping. So you'll have one more use for your phone!
