Wildlife
This preserve has a variety of wildlife. Some include:
Ringtails
Different frog types, including the leopard frog
Many types of insects
The wildlife in this area will give you a bit of a break from normal desert critters. Because of the diverse wildlife, there are many interesting and some endangered species that call the preserve home.
Offerings
This preserve offers both day and night experiences. The G.O.T. Team had the chance to see the preserve at night. Both of our guides were experienced, providing a good amount of wildlife knowledge. The river preserve is dense with trees and bushes. Some of the plants there are around one hundred years old, so it is definitely a must go if you are in the area. We heard new information, got recipe tips, and had the opportunity to use a UV light to spot scorpions hiding amongst the trees.
We got a chance to see the iNaturalist app being used by others in our group for identifying a bug. This preserve could be a hot spot for the app during the daytime, or with flashlights at night. Our tour began and ended in the Nature Center. The center houses a collection of wildlife related exhibits and information on living things you may encounter while walking the grounds. A bonus is the beauty of this building and its surrounding sitting areas.
